I've been given 12 lbs of pears and was thinking some nice pear cider could I add 10 lbs of apples to give me that full gallon or do they not mix well ?????

I`m also thinking about doing a perry. If using eating pears should I add tannin just as I would when making cider from eating apples?

Steveandtina - yes they mix fine.
jkp - yes if they're eating/dessert pears add some tannin. on a technical note, it won't be perry unless you use perry pears, it'll be a pear cider (yes even if the only ingredient is pear juice)

Resurrecting this one from the dead. I've got just over 5kg of comice pears to juice. Planning on a pear cider.

I've made a couple of ciders before and have added tannins by soaking two tea bags in a cup of boiling water, then cooling and added no to the juiced liquid.

Should I use the same amount of tea-bags for pear cider?

The plan is to blend it with my two demijohns of cider next Spring as pears have some unfermentable sugars, so will hopefully add a little sweetness. I'm still expecting to backsweeten mind, but that's a long way off.

2016: 330L brewed (72 gallons, over 8 firkins)
2017: 105L brewed (need to update this figure)
Drinking: Landlord clone
Conditioning: ciders from 2016, hedgerow barrolo, 1914 Courage RIS (10%).
