Adventures in Citra - Red Lemon

I wanted to try Citra in a brew and also was looking for a nice red colour and came up with this recipe:
http://beersmithrecipes.com/viewrecipe/ ... 381463393d

Brewer: Kohoutec
Batch Size: 18.93 l Style: English IPA (14A)
Boil Size: 25.19 l Style Guide: BJCP 2008
Color: 21.3 EBC Equipment: Burco
Bitterness: 41.5 IBUs Boil Time: 75 min
Est OG: 1.048 (11.9° P) Mash Profile: BIAB, Medium Body
Est FG: 1.011 SG (2.9° P) Fermentation: Ale, Two Stage
ABV: 4.8%

Ingredients:
5.00 g Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) (Mash 60 min)
3.20 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC)
350.0 g Carared (39.4 EBC)
400.0 g Vienna Malt (6.9 EBC)
350.0 g Caraamber (59.1 EBC)
30.0 g Roasted Barley (1200.0 EBC)
12.0 g Magnum [12.8%] - Boil 60 min
0.25 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 15 min)
10.0 g Citra [14.5%] - Boil 10 min
20.0 g Citra [14.5%] - Boil 5 min
20.0 g Citra [14.5%] - Boil 1 min
20.0 g Citra [14.5%] - Steep 20 min
1 pkgs Nottingham (Danstar #-)
30.0 g Citra [14.5%] - Dry Hop 5 d

I brewed it a couple of weeks back and bottled it this evening, and I'm hoping it's a goodun. No Brewday pics unfortunately, but the taster I had was very promising. Not exactly what I was expecting, but it was very fruity, with definite peach notes. Didn't quite nail the red colour but it was close...OG was 1050 and FG 1011 so 5.1ish.

Hopefully a good summer quaffer!

Looks a fine recipe, have copied it for a future try - Love Citra, probably my fav at the mo. I prefer to do a hop tea rather than dry hopping, its less of a faf and I had a contaminated brew last time I dry hopped.

Hop Tea - how to

Adventures in Citra - Red Lemon

It's not ready of course but I always like to try one of my brews after a week in the bottle, purely for scientific reasons.

So gave this some artificial head with a portable beer engine (aka calpol syringe!)

It's my best brew yet by a long shot. I might need to rename it as it's definitely peach/tropical flavours and not lemon I'm getting from the Citra, but even at this stage it's a good pint.

[edit] after a couple of this I would say I definitely overdid the crystal malts. It's very nice but a bit too sweet. Live and learn!

That Red is amazing! <major envy>
My attempts at a Irish Red haven't got anywhere near that colour (they are either too gold or too brown!)

Thanks, it was a great colour, more luck than judgement I think! Definitely a touch too much crystal flavour wise though; nice, but nearly bordering on cloying.

i'll be brewing a tweaked version of this recipe on my next brewday in a couple of weeks. Have ditched the Citra but will keep the grain pretty much as yours is!
Here's hoping for the same colour!
