Kit Brewer, Tell us what you think of the kits you are making, what's good, what's bad, and what should we avoid.

Great head which was a nice nice mid brown and lasted right through, and a nice dark stout. Tasted a tad like bottled Guiness but not so bitter. Will be doing this one again for sure.

1 Wilko Dark Velvet Stout.
500 grm beer enhancer
500 grm Dk Dried Malt
Approx 1/4 tin black treacle
8 grms Goldings hops steeped in caffatiere for 15 mins and added to mix
100 grms Demerera sugar
Brewed short to 19 litres
Tea bag of willamette hops added for 5 days before racking
Batch primed.
Came out at around 4.40% or thereabouts.

This is mellowing out quite nicely now.
Trying to hold back a good few and see how it matures :D

This has really mellowed out since my initial taste. Had a couple a few weeks back and taste had altered but now so much more mellow, mild hint of coffee/chocolate and the slight kit tang almost all gone. Not going to be in a rush to gulp this lot down, will string it out and see how much more it improves :D :drink:

I'm just drinking my way through my second Dark Velvet Stout kit and it's very good. The first kit I brewed at 23litres by using one can and one kilo of Wilko brewing sugar. Second time around I reduced the volume to 20litres and have been rewarded with a tastier, stronger brew. I bottle mine in 1l San Pelligrino PET bottles (as we get through a lot of that too) and they have the advantage of being sterile after use.
