well this is it 12 days in the bottle really nice chocolate after taste but not over powering, nice bitter taste with the hops added there's only one way this one is going and that is better the longer its in the bottle worked out at 5.7% well worth the extra for this kit you wont be disappointed with it im certainly not.

Thought about doing this one in time for Christmas, but I can't imagine wanting to drink 40 pints of the stuff! It's not exactly a session ale!

That's why I didn't start one, I had a chocolate stout at a beer festival and really liked it. Saw this kit and it was going to be next, but then I thought, do I really want 40 pints. If you could do a gallon in a Demijohn that would be nice.

Good point - a demijohn would be a perfect size.

It wouldn't be hard to brew a regular stout and rack it into some cocoa and vanilla, or even just steal a gallon of wort on brewday and steep then boil up enough chocolate malt to turn a pale beer into a stout.

I ended up making one of these kits and I put most of it in bottles apart from one mini-keg.
The 2 or 3 bottles I have sampled so far have been lovely. I suppose you either like the rich ,chocolaty style stout or you don't, bit like marmite eh?
To my taste it is a really nice drop but I must admit I can't ever see me wanting more than a couple in one night but it makes a great brew to add to the stash and bring out for friends and family.
Because of the kind of drink it is I can see this lasting a while but in a good way. :cheers1:

Yep, same here. I bottled mine back in April, and there's still 20-odd bottles sat there gathering a layer of dust.

It's nice, but I'm not usually in the mood for it. Maybe as the winter nights draw in?

I've put a bottle into a chilli I made with decent results, might test one in a beef stew at some point too...

i bottled mine in April aswell, i've still got 39 bottles it's just too chocolaty for me. i found mixing about a 1/4 of this & 3/4 coopers stout is very nice just the right amount of a chocolate background coming through. but at the slow rate i'm drinking them i'll still have some left after 10 years. i just have more better beers to sup.

I haven't had mine bottled for very long but the few I've had are getting better each time . As winter approaches this will make a very nice winter warmer. :drink:
I sent one as a beermail to unclejona of youtube to sample. If I can I will post a linky.
