Citra pale ale

Postby marcarm » Tue Jun 23, 2015 18:54

Looking for some feedback on this recipe that I am planning on brewing on Thursday. I'm looking for something very hoppy, maybe not in the Brew Dog region but similar.

Code: Select all
Amt   Name   Type   #   %/IBU
5.00 kg   Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC)   Grain   1   95.2 %
40.00 g   Centennial [10.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min   Hop   3   40.1 IBUs
30.00 g   Citra [13.20 %] - Boil 5.0 min   Hop   4   8.7 IBUs
30.00 g   Citra [13.20 %] - Boil 2.0 min   Hop   5   3.7 IBUs
30.00 g   Citra [13.20 %] - Boil 1.0 min   Hop   6   1.9 IBUs
0.25 kg   Wheat, Torrified (3.3 EBC)   Grain   2   4.8 %

I also have the rest of the pack of Centennial (60g) about 70g of Kazbek and 100g of Crystal that I can add during the boil/dry hop if needed.

I'm making this to 23l, using up the last of the bag of pale malt I have. Also have a bit of Acid malt but not sure the recipe needs it.

I'd 50/50 your aroma hops between a 0 min addition and dry hop if you want a mega aroma. Your centennial will blend fine with Citra if you want to use them too. Don't use Acid Malt unless you're correcting mash PH or brewing a fake sour.

I would always boil for 90 minute especially a pale ale you run less risk of clarity issues. Personally I am not a fan of horrified wheat much prefer wheat Malt as it doesn't have the shredded wheat taste, may not be a problem in a hop forward ale.

Should be a nice beer.

Thanks, do you mean all the citra from 5 mins?

So 45g at flame out and 45g dry hop? Will leave the acid far away from this brew!

I normally boil for 90 mins as well, not sure why that defaulted to 60 mins, will need to change that so the IBU's will change.

Edit, I just changed it to 90 mins, the boil was 90 mins but the centennial addition was 60 mins.

I could also dry hop with the crystal or kazbek and keep the citra as is?
