IPA with Progress and Citra

Postby LeithR » Wed Aug 24, 2016 16:19

I have a packet of Progress hops that are needing to be used and I have some Citra pellets left from a recent batch. I'm thinking along the lines of an IPA, does anybody have a recipe using those hops that they would recommend?

I don't have a recipe, but you won't go wrong using the Progress for bittering and the Citra for flavour/aroma/dry-hop.

2016: 330L brewed (72 gallons, over 8 firkins)
2017: 105L brewed (need to update this figure)
Drinking: Landlord clone
Conditioning: ciders from 2016, hedgerow barrolo, 1914 Courage RIS (10%).

I personally think Citra gives off odd flavours when used for bittering, so would definitely recommend saving it for late in the boil.

Do you have any style or commercial IPAs you like, to give us a better idea of direction?

I'm thinking of basing it on Worthington's white Shield from GW's book. I made this a year or so back, the recipe worked well but each bottle was a gusher unless I left it in the Fridge for a while before opening. I used Nottingham yeast last time.
