This looks like a popular beer. Time to ask Rob to put it together as a kit?

BB, I was wondering if the following was used for bottling purposes or thrown in to the fermenter?

0.20 kg Sugar, Table (Sucrose) (1.0 SRM) Sugar 3.46 %

The 23L volume, is it the volume into the fermentor, bottles/keg or volume at the end of the boil (and if so when the wort is still hot or cooled)?

Cool at the end of the boil I think. Brew mate takes this change into account.

Looks like a nice beer....

One question though. What ABV should it finish at? The ABV figure originally given (4.7%) seems way too low given the grain quantities.

cheers

I think you are probably right but have PM'ed Barnsley Brewer to see if he can give a definitive answer in the thread.
I will be using BIABacus, which is supposed to calculate all these loses pretty accurately, so it will be interesting to see what the real volume in fermentor and then packaging is.

Okay I have some answers from the man himself that should clarify things:

1> The 23L actually refers to volume in fermentor

2> It was scaled down from what would usually be 59L into the fermentor, working on 85% efficiency, so John gave me the original recipe to check against for errors (I will be using BIABacus so for me this is all auto generated and scaled, based upon equipment and desired volume in fermentor, but it may be useful for others):

"OLD BERNARD"
Amount Item Type % or IBU
11.50 kg Pale Malt (2 Row) UK (2.5 SRM) Grain 86.08 %
0.70 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM) Grain 5.24 %
0.50 kg Wheat, Torrified (1.7 SRM) Grain 3.74 %
0.10 kg Chocolate Malt (450.0 SRM) Grain 0.75 %
0.06 kg Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) Grain 0.45 %
180.00 gm Challenger [8.16 %] (60 min) Hops 52.7 IBU
100.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [6.50 %] (30 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -
0.50 kg Sugar, Table (Sucrose) (1.0 SRM) Sugar 3.74 %
3 Pkgs Nottingham (Danstar #-) Yeast-Ale

Looking forward to getting this brewed :D

I've got to say that this is a cracking beer now 5 months on. At first it was a bit to tangy especially the aftertaste but now it's BOOM! :D

I have this in a no chill cube at the moment, it will get fermented next weekend. Mine ended up being a lot higher in starting gravity though as I wasn't prepared for how insanely efficient the Grainfather would be. Looking forward to trying it out though
