" OLD BERNARD"

Postby BarnsleyBrewer » Fri Apr 11, 2014 11:54

Brewed this loads of times, :drink:
I first created and brewed it in memory of an old guy on our street who died suddenly about 4 years ago, when bottled I gave his family 1 each (FOC :o ) with a picture of him on the label which they've kept..
I've scaled it down to 23L and based it on 75% efficiency

"OLD BERNARD"
5.00 kg Pale Malt (2 Row) UK (2.5 SRM) Grain 86.51 %

I was going to try out your Old Bernard BB :) ............. Just one thing, 70g of Challenger for bittering, is that right? seems high to me ..... I'm not doubting you, just wondered if it was a typo?

It's scaled it down from 59L with Beersmith, I'm sure the hops should be right but double check.... The IBU's were 52 tho :thumb:

Don't worry BB won't use a single hop that isn't needed.

All done and now cooling. I couldn't find any reference to yeast so I used Notty.

I did an overnight mash ........... I usually do and a 90 min boil. It was a fluke, at the time, I happened to have all the ingredients and I'm glad I did :)

I normally mash for around 90 mins @68c combined with a 60 min boil... (never seen the benefit from 90 mins boiling apart from wasting electricity) .. :thumb:
