Theakstons XB

Postby iwoo » Tue May 23, 2017 16:18

While on a recent brewery trip at Masham I noticed a grist bill for XB as well as the usual malts it included wheat and maize and also CWA and BRUBLOCK. Does anyone know what CWA and BRUBLOCK are?

I tried google and got nothing.

Maybe to help the beer drop bright or to prevent chill haze or excess foaming?

2017: 105L brewed (need to update this figure)
Drinking: Landlord clone
Conditioning: ciders from 2016, hedgerow barrolo, 1914 Courage RIS (10%).

Sugars at a guess, Brublock sounds like a block of invert I reckon.

Edt: A search for Ragus Brublock seems to confirm that.

Aye it's looks as though invert sugar is being used. No problem with this still got to find out what CWS is

If included with the malts it's likely to be another sugar. Might just be brewing caramel but sugar is more likely I'd have thought.

CWS or CWA? Could be cane white sugar? A pure guess on my part clearly!

it was CWA. It's the spell check on my phone. The Ragus information was good.

Checked the CWA link out and it might possibly be corn starch or more likely brewing sugar front corn
