Perfect for lagering

Postby Jeltz » Tue Feb 20, 2018 15:14

Just kegged a lager and put it outside the back of my house, come in and see a news article in the local rag

Bitterly cold weather to grip Somerset

Awesome, bring it on

I’ve been thinking the same - it’s been hovering around 3-6C recently, so a Lager is on the cards. I can get a steady 8-10C ambient in my cellar, plus put the FV on a stone floor as a heat-sink. Works good

2016: 330L brewed (72 gallons, over 8 firkins)
2017: 105L brewed (need to update this figure)
Drinking: Landlord clone
Conditioning: ciders from 2016, hedgerow barrolo, 1914 Courage RIS (10%).

I've done some outdoors lagering here in Aberdeen during winter. The results were good, go for it!

Well it dropped below zero yesterday afternoon, we hit -7.0°C last night and we wont get above freezing until Saturday afternoon. IIRC such cold temperatures accelerate the lagering process quite a bit.

My problem with the cold is that my beer won't carbonate after bottling right now
