Dry hopping makes airlock go crazy

I've seen this several times... add dry hops to a brew which has stopped fermenting and suddenly the airlock starts bubbling rapidly again.

Anyone know why?

Is it just that the hops provide a rough surface for dissolved CO2 to form bubbles on? Rather like the etched pattern a t the bottom of some pint glasses
