Whisky barrel chippings, any solid info?

Got a great idea for a concept beer, but I'm wondering if anyone can help with barrel ageing. Our local sells packs of these and I'd like enough for a 23L batch, but how much is too much? They are chips, around the same size of flaked barley pieces.

If you are after a slight whisky flavour, can't you just use a glass or two of a good quality single malt in the finished beer?

I used about 50g I think, the thing is to much wood takes ages to fade, not enough and you just mature a little longer.
I Have some spare kicking around at my ex's house, if I can find them you are welcome to them.
