Christmas Cracker Ale

Postby BigYin » Sun Dec 03, 2017 17:09

Came across this recipe a while ago - I think on the Electric Brew Company site - cannae blasted remember!

Anyway, took the recipe and trebled everything. Looking for a FV around 60 litres

Just over 15 KG of grain

Definitely found the upper limit for the mash tun

and the boiler!

Currently doing a longer boil to get the volume down to one the fermenter can handle - and even then decided that the addition of a blow-off tube would probably be wise!

Still waiting on the boiler volume getting low enough.....

Plenty of hops and the chill went pretty quick.

Had let it boil longer to ensure the FV would fit in the fermenter, but needn't have left it quite so long.

Ended up with 59 litres at 1.056

Don't use a blow off tube myself but that's a good idea of using a drum tap. Never seen that before.

5 days on and although the gravity has dropped by around 39 points I'd like it to get down by another 6 or 7 points, so I'd best be patient!

Brew-Pi is looking after it nicely :D :drink:
