Mangrove Jack's Yeast Packaging issues

Postby jkp » Sun Aug 07, 2016 07:05

I was recently going through the yeast packets in my fridge and noticed that my two MJ yeasts have packaging issues. Both have folds in the top seal, see photos below.

The cider yeast packaging is particularly bad.

I only have two MJ packets, both fairly new and from different sellers, so it seems strange that they both have the same problem. All my other yeast from other companies have perfect seals. Am I being overly critical here?

For me it's not just a question if whether the seal has been compromised, but aesthetically it just looks bad. Anyone else noticed this?

Looks like a problem with their crimping and sealing equipment/process. Almost certainly run on an automated packing line and these things do happen. Potentially there could be micro channels for air to enter but it looks like it's well sealed. Sealing will use heat and pressure to melt the inner surface plastic layer, so even with those deformations it should still have created a decent seal. (I qualify Packaging and packing lines for a living)
