Brett wanted

Postby HTH1975 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 14:28

I'm looking for some Brett yeast and hoping that someone may have some spare that they wouldn't mind donating.

2016: 330L brewed (72 gallons, over 8 firkins)
2017: 105L brewed (need to update this figure)
Drinking: Landlord clone
Conditioning: ciders from 2016, hedgerow barrolo, 1914 Courage RIS (10%).

Thanks for the link - I was asking if anyone had any going spare as I'm out of work right now and trying to save pennies where I can.

Regarding Orval - I'm thinking you'd need a big starter to grow enough yeast from bottle dregs. Has anyone here got experience doing this?

For a primary fermentation yes, but should be fine for secondary. I think there's still saccharomyces in Orval, so it wouldn't be suitable for 100% brett beers anyway.

Here is the yeast that I cultured from a 33 year old bottle of Courage Russian Stout.

I've got a starter full of brett c. You're welcome to some, but not sure if I have a post worthy container. Echoing the above very question, whereabouts are you?

for an interesting sour add a tablespoon of grain to mashed wort and keep at 45 degrees. Taste every day when the bacteria gets to work on the wort from the grain when sour to taste boil and ferment with a neutral yeast

ITS TIME 4 ANOTHER BEER

Small plastic pop bottles or plastic testubes of ebay are great for posting yeast. I used to swap yeast quite a bit.

I'm in Thirsk, North Yorks - would be great if someone could pop some in an empty water bottle and post to me (will PayPal postage costs).

I bottled up my brett the other day. The yeast slurry is in the cellar in a 2 liter pop bottle. I was just waiting for my brewing partner to come back of holiday to discuss how much to send you!
Glad you got some sorted. And good work rats eyes!

A yeast swap could be a fun thing to get going or a dregs swap if it's bacteria/mixed.

I've got a few sours on the go, in long term conditioning. I'd be happy to share some of the yeast cake once it's time to bottle them. Might not be for another 3-4 months at least though

Yeast swaps could defo be fun. Maybe a sticky/database to show who has what.
