MJ M44 or SO5?

Postby Cornish Knocker » Wed Apr 06, 2016 19:05

My local home brew store has just started stocking Mangrove Jacks yeast, so might give it a try.

For American pale ales, would you recommend the US West Coast M44, or should I stick with my usual SAFALE US-05, or any other yeast from the Mangrove Jacks or Fermentis range?

:cheers1:

US05 every time, reliable. Heard bad reports about M44.

I used the M44 3 or 4 times before my first US-05 and now I'd never go back to M44.. You should give it a go yourself if you've never tried it, I just found that US-05 gave me a much crisper taste for my pale ales.

They're about the same flavour wise so if us-05 is working for you there's no real need for a change.

I find the Mangrove yeast clears more easily than US05.
Flavour wise it would be very difficult to tell them apart.

Thanks guys. I've always been happy using US05, so if it is difficult to tell them apart, perhaps 'better the devil you know'

Cheers :cheers1:
