Does anyone know how many UK homebrewers there are and how much beer they produce? Thanks

That's an interesting question, it would be nice if you introduced yourself first but welcome to the forum.

So why do you ask?

Sorry, by the way, I don't know the answer.

Hi hejdavies. Unfortunately I don't have the answer either but just wanted to welcome! Going to keep an eye on this thread as I'm interested to find the answer myself.

Welcome. At a rough guess based on the membership of say Jim's forum (12,000) I would say around 10,000. I have knocked off 2000, as some will be non UK and some will have dropped out or died, and some will not be on a forum. Assuming they all brew on average 3 times per year, and on average 25lt per brew, that would be about 750,000lt or about 1.5 million pints. That is all just a guess and may well be wildly out, but a good starting point.

Phil Lowry reckoned at least 15,000 homebrewers in UK (Jan 2013).

UK homebrew market apparently worth 25m per year (2014 figure) and growing 30% y/o/y.

Maybe we could extrapolate from there.
