Browning hops

I have just received some hops that have come in a clear vacuum pack that wasn't fully vacuum sealed so there was air still in the package and the hops look a little brown.

Do you think these will still be alright?
Do you think i need to adjust the AA on them? Unfortunately the package doesn't state the harvest year.

I'd give them a sniff. I've had hops that look like that like Topaz and Saaz - if they smell good use them. If you smell cheese or stale, maybe just use for bittering. or leave them in the sun for a year for brewing a lambic :D

Hmmm yeah, I can understand your worry. Sometimes they are a bit brown when picked. I've had this same thing though, some air inside, don't look great, bags not light proof, AA unknown. Not good. I just go to places I trust now TBH.

No i have the AA just don't trust it will be very accurate due too air in package. I order these from a reputable shop so was quite surprised when they arrived this way. Safe to say ill be going back to my usual supplier next time

Yes, exactly and the date is important for AA. I worked out, 2 year old hops, with air and in the freezer, half in AA !

Didn't realise it could be up too that much! I think im going to adjust my recipe to use a hop i trust to do the main bittering and only use these for aroma/late flavour i have 250g so i can stick big additions in.

You know Martin, my brewing has improved since I found this out. I opened stuff, froze it and made no adjustment. Time is a factor and freezing slows but doesn't stop the drop in AA.
When I find it I'll post a link.
