Hop pellets in hop bags

Postby Rivvo » Mon Apr 20, 2015 18:30

Hi guys, I was lucky enough to be given 4 vac packs of T90 pellets, I have Vic secret, relax, comet and Galaxy, I've not heard of the middle two before.
My question is that I sometimes use muslin hop bags in the boil, does anyone know if these would be sufficient to stop the pellet rub getting through and clogging the tap?

mine dissolved when i did. not the tightest net on the bag though (whatever you call it.) however, i do now brew with all pellets and no filter etc, the hop crap goes right through my tap into the FV and i just avoid it when I transfer it to bottles.

That method is fine for people who dont use a pump to cool.

i used a pump when using pellets before and no filter, i did recirculate to create a whirlpool though.

Now if using voile i get a large piece big enough to clip all the way around the top of the boiler and then put them in that and just pull it out at the end, it holds all of the hops and i have to squeeze it for it to come out

i tried it with the last pump we had it clogged it badly. I suppose it depends on type of pump

Yeah, I think if your using pellets you've got to expect hops in the FV. With luck they'll end up in the trub. Not great if you hope to harvest your yeast though.

It's fine if you wash it as you leave the dead yeast and hop fragments behind.
Cyclops did you use pellets in the boiler and did any escape at all?
