Chinook and Simcoe together, too dank?

Postby kohoutec » Fri Apr 17, 2015 10:29

I know some here have an aversion to Simcoe...I've only used it once so far and loved it, I also like Chinook so don't really pick up on the cat piss thing.

Anyway, I've got some Chinook and a little Cascade left over from a recent Proper Job clone, and planning on adding some Simcoe into the mix, something like this:

OG 1052 -1055ish
IBU 44

5kg Maris otter
500g Munich
200g Wheat Malt
100g Medium Crystal

10g Chinook @ 60 mins
20g Cascade @ 10 mins
20g Simcoe @ 10 mins
20g Cascade @ 5 mins
20g Simcoe @ 5 mins
10g Chinook @ 5 mins
20g Simcoe @ 0 mins

40g Simcoe dry hop 5 days

Yeast: not sure yet

What do we think, am I veering into pine toilet duck territory or will it be okay...by my reckoning it's only 20g Chinook and half of that is for bittering so should be okay?

Just brewed with lots of both loads of pine and grapefruit, pretty good IMO

That looks right up my street, I love my cascade chinook simcoe hops. The cat piss thing is with citra hops though, not something I've heard described about chinook. It should turn out a nice beer.what I would maybe do is tweak the recipe to 250g munich and 250g crystal, and 500g wheat to try and retain some head but that's just me!

I brewed pretty much the recipe in the original post although upped the flame out hops slightly. Bottled it tonight and it smelt divine... The sample tasted great too. Looking forward to this one!
