Never used Admiral at home - only at the first brewery I worked at. It’s good value with the high AAUs (about 10-12 if I recall).
Back in t’ day when they were using Fuggles and Goldings for 99% if everything, they must’ve been using crazy amounts of hops. Well, actually, they were if you check out Ron Pattinson’s blog. Also, it seems Cluster was regularly used for bittering. Will have to try that with an English style beer some time. Also seen Saaz used as a finishing hop back in the 1900-1950s period forEnglush ales.
