Vinegar mother

A designated driver would probably appreciate something made just for them

Vinegar mother

Hi folks

Anyone know where I can buy a Mother/vinegar starter. I live near Wigan and work in Manchester so anywhere local(ish) or in between would be useful.

Thanks

Open a bottle of beer, wait for fruit flies?

It's acetobacter you need I think and fruit flies are riddled with it.

I read somewhere if you buy an unpasteurised cider vinegar you can use it to make a starter

Also a good plan - try local farm shops, deli's and what not. :thumb:

I have 3-4 gallons of vinegar both malt and cider with plenty of mother in it. If you want some I am in eccles but unfortunately I am only available during the day.

So, yesterday I nipped out from work and picked up some 'mother' from Greys. (Pssst I don't think that is his real picture.)

Anyway, I have now got two litres of white wine vinegar, two litres of red wine vinegar and two litres of Cider vinegar on the go all thanks to Mr. (ahem) Meldrew.

Cheers Al

Well, I don't know if you have ever seen a picture that he has posted of an infected brew... you probably haven't  The 'mother' came from that batch. (I think)

Nice to meet you Matt, and I must say you look nothing like your avatar either.

The mother came from an early acetobacter infection from 2011, I think, a not the one which is well documented on here  .
