Degas...or not?

Postby hmk877 » Tue Sep 23, 2014 22:17

Most of my brews have been made following Moley's wow instructions, and have been shaken to degas. I have some dj's on the go at the moment with elderberries, blackberries and sloe's. The recipes I've found for these (from t'internet) don't mention degassing.

Do all wines benefit from degassing, or don't the berry ones need it as the recommendation is for them to be stored for 6-12 months before drinking? :?

And there was me, genuinely clicking on this thread expecting to see a picture of an Edgar Degas painting, the authenticity of which was in question!

Degassing is not essential but I find degassing a wine helps the wine to clear quicker.

You've hit the nail on the head, except that should read “stored for 6-12 months before bottling”.

And that's precisely why I hyphenate as de-gas.
