Selection Luna Rossa

Made a great kit, tell us about it, made something not so great from a kit, warn the rest of us.

I have a very soft spot for Selection kits & tend to make one or two a year. It's such a shame that they stopped producing the 6 bottle kits-they were what swayed me towards paying for the larger size. I find the lower priced red kits are pleasant enough, but lack the body & depth of a really great wine. I keep coming back to this one though-might well be my favourite.

What do you get for your cash? A whopping 16 litres of grape juice concentrate-& it makes a huge amount of difference to the end product.
I've got this bulk ageing now & will give it a month or so before bottling. Flavour wise-warming,oaky & full of blackcurrant flavours that just linger on the palate for ages. After a year it just becomes so ridiculously smooth, but even young its something special.

The price may be a stumbling point for some-but for around £2.50 a bottle (which is a lot for home brew I know) I think it will knock the spots off most of the supermarket wines in the <£20 bracket. With some of Bob's caps & a printed label they also look pretty good too.

UPDATE- After starting this at the beginning of October its had a couple of rackings & has been bulk aged for a few months. Bottled up today. I might have been a bit light with topping up with water initially & there has been some sampling on each rack-so got 28 rather than 30.

If anyone is a fan of Apothic Red then you will love this-closest commercial I can compare it to. But much smoother, & much less tannin.

Plan to make this as my next red wine kit.

Will be interested to see how it compares to the barolo in the same range.

Hope it turns out well for you. I wish Selection/Wine Expert would reinstate the 6 bottle kits so people could try them without such a large price tag.

Finally got around to getting one of these.

For anyone who is interested BrewUK are selling it for £70 which is at least £10 cheaper than anywhere else I can find.

Another one made & bottled. I have stopped buying shop red now completely & just keep supping this.IMHO it's one of the best kits (in its price range) that Wine Expert have made.

That's good to hear! Almost tempts me (as a beer brewer). £70+ though in my bucket... eek... makes me nervous! I do like a nice full red though. My DJs haven't had an outing for some time either.
