If you add fruit at the start they'll tend to lose flavour as fermentation progresses.
I've made an elderberry cider, which was basically a blend of a finished cider, and a finished plain elderberry wine. This is probably the best way to go, as you can judge the flavour profile in small amounts will you get it right then scale up for the quantities you have.
otherwise, make a fruit tea and add near the end of fermentation? or add fruit pulp to an FV and rack the cider onto this after the initial fermentation has died down?
or you could make a fruit cordial, and add this to the cider as you serve it.

I'm using frozen berries etc so they may need boiling first to extract the juice etc I'll add them to a secondary maybe

Nah, boiling with ruin the taste. Thaw, crush, sit with Campden overnight and add in the morning would be my method. Many just dump em in.

I've made the magnum apple and pear ciders and dry hopped both and they have turned out superb. I would think adding some fruit or fruit juice like ribena etc would taste pretty good.
