Tesco no added sugar ginger beer experiment

Postby martindisorder » Fri Aug 01, 2014 08:29

I recently purched a few cans of tesco no added sugar ginger beer and IMHO its disgusting. As i have 5 cans left and a empty demijohn i was thinking of having a play and try to make something drinkable with it.

My idea is to take the 5 cans and boil them for about 10-20 min along with about 200 ml of lime cordial and 250g brewing sugar top up to 4.5lL with water and ferment for a couple of weeks using youngs super wine yeast.

Has anyone tried anything along these lines with any success or can anyone suggest anything that would improve the finished product or at least my chances of creating something palatable?

If its a total failure i wouldnt be too bothered as i was just going to throw or give away the cans and the rest is what i have in the house anyway.

Cheers

Does it have any saccharine in it? (or aspartame etc) If so it might end up a bit too sweet, but it could be an interesting trial.

I quite like the 2L bottles of it. But the Asda stuff is better IMHO.

Ill have a look on the can tonight to see whats in it.

I really like Aldi ginger beer but they haven't had it in my local store for a few weeks now so I've been sampling other brands. The sainsburys own label is probably the best I've found yet but not tried asda.

I did read a try to do a double kit ginger beer topped off to 30 liters with water but he threw it down the drain. I don't think it will make it any better. But maybe adding fresh ginger will make the kits better

I have not failed i just found 10000 ways that won't work!

Maybe some DME instead of sugar. Give it a bit more body and "dry hop" with chopped fresh ginger

Work is the curse of the drinking classes
