New hydrometer day

Postby HTH1975 » Tue Jan 10, 2017 22:16

After being spoilt at local breweries with swanky expensive hydrometers, I wanted the same thing at home but in the usual small format.

I found a set of three hydrometers on eBay for under a fiver delivered, so I thought it was worth a shot.

They look as nice as my existing cheapy hydrometer, so I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

I'll be brewing a 70 Shilling this weekend, so I'll have a chance to use them and get a more accurate reading (hopefully).

I thought they were marked 1.0xx but it seems they're some different scale - none of them have tested accurately in wort. Too good to be true? - yes.

I'm gonna get a refractometer moving forward.

Refractometer :thumb: but you will still need a hydrometer after pitching

can you check them against reverse osmosis water at 20 deg C?

Global average carbon emissions - one ton per person per year.
Current emissions in UK – 9 tons per person per year!
Eight million tons of plastic dumped into the oceans. Every year!
