False Bottom for 50 lt Thermo Pot MT

Postby Kloorob » Mon Aug 17, 2015 20:44

Hi All,

I am in the process of upgrading my MT from an Igloo to a Bergland 50 lt thermo pot and I should be grateful if you could comment on the best FB I should go for?

I have read that the Blichmann FB (15 gal version) in a good option, though a bit pricy, or will a standard perforated holed sheet would work just the same?

Thanks,

Kloo

I use a domed false bottom, does the job but it's not brilliant if the crush is too fine.

I use a blichmann 15G false bottom with my 50L thermopot. The thermopot has a bottom drain and I sealed the exit hole on the FB with a stainless steel disk, then used some stainless steel nuts and bolts to raise the FB off the bottom of the pot. It's excellent, I have done some pretty wheat & oat heavy recipies and have never had a stuck mash. The FB is a perfect fit for the thermopot, didn't even need to create a seal for the rim it was that good a fit. I've used for around 50 brews and still consider it one of the best purchases I've made, it's expensive but really well made and I reckon it'll last a lifetime.
