our herms build

Postby mark1964 » Sat May 24, 2014 17:20

so we got all the bits last night and today decided to have a bash

The asda kettle was not good the silicone washer not good enough to make a watertight seal. We cut the washer in to 2 pieces to try and sandwich the element in the pot but still leaked. Got a tesco kettle and used the silicone washer in that to make the seal. Also used half of the cut washer to make sure it was watertight. I think the plastic on the asda kettle was thicker than the tesco one thats why the seal leaked.

The 20mm hole drilled

The element now ready to be sealed in the pot

in and tested no leaks

the 10mm copper coil, used a golf hole from work to coil it round its 3cm smaller than the pot which made it ideal.

coil fits well just need some 10mm elbows tomorrow and get it soldered. Then drill the pot at the top and get the pipes through.

Probe and pid came also today so need a project box din plug and some 3 core cable also a plug socket box next week.

while in tesco saw this so we will be growing the yeast for some cider too.

10 mm pipes soldered up

the kettle wires soldered on to the element pins and taped

we used a 10mm to 15mm straight coupler through the side of the pot on both sides. It took a while and a bit of fiddling to get the pipes to line up with the couplers.

all finished leak tested no leaks inside.
Filled with water and tested everythings ok so thats done. Next week will be wiring up pid etc :thumb:

Nice looking build Mark. I'm no good with the wiring up of PIDs all looks too complicated for my ikle brain. Be careful with the Old Rosie it is dangerous stuff. I got extremely drunk at a race meeting at Castle Combe once. It was in a plastic barrel on the bar and drank like orange juice. :drunk: :drunk:

To my mind that's a perfect size Mark, you should get accurate with that!

Old Rosie is funny stuff, you don't feel pissed, but when you try to stand, your legs don't work properly!

So this is the stuff we got today found bonus electrical the cheapest but had to go to Maplins for the 3 pin din plug and connectors. Tomorrow we will build the unit and wire up the ssr and pid. Then its a test run as soon as we get a pump :thumb:

finally managed to get the wires right on the pid too

so this is the box with everything wired up. The box is bigger than the last one as it was a bit of a tight fit last time.

The pid in the box front

Just the probe to wire now next week :thumb:
