Has anyone used the above grain, bought 10kg of this base malt was thinking about making a nice Irish ale with loads of Crystal Malt with it

Welcome. Ive used it to tint a wheat beer but you can use it as 100% of your grain bill for irish ales. If i were making an irish ale the only thing i would add to the red malt is a bit of caragold

Why wouldn't you put crystal in, just for the colouring reasons? I've never heard of this grain before, but assuming it's some kind of red mild grain, you could always use Cara amber /red to keep the colour.

Personally I think a darker crystal could work well (but I'm just guessing at what the base malt it like).

I find caragold a more mellow grain. Crystal in large amounts gives too much of a toffee taste for me.
It's not a mild grain but a bade malt like pale. It's basically for red beer if you like that sort of thing
