Are the two the same thing or different?

Sounds like a daft question but thought I should ask......

Kegged:
Simecoe APA (HBF Donation)

Bottled:
Galaxy Pale Ale, Woodfordes Wherry, Bella Brew Pale Ale, Strawberry and vanilla Pale Ale, Mixed fruits cider, Elderflower and grapefruit fizz.

Maturing:
Rhubarb Wine, WOW rose', Elderberry wine, Mixed berries wine, Elderflower and grapefruit wine, Elderberry wine.

Next Up:
German Pilsner, Guinness Clone, Chateau De Roi selection kit, Strawberry and lime cider.

Different, but similar. Perhaps Carapils gives less caramel and sweetness, but bother provide body and head retention.

I've been looking into this recently as well as one of my beers was lacking in body. My brief bit of research seemed to show that carapils provided very little flavour but aided with body and head retention.

Its interesting to see it as a substitute for Crystal 10 in the grain substitution chart, as it seems it is largely used as dextrine malt (also included in the substitution chart with carapils).

I have seen some say they dislike the use of carapils, as the effect could be easily had by increasing the mash temperature and so it almost seems like an easy way out - but if its works for Piny the Elder, thats good enough for me :)

Carapils kicks out loads of dextrines to increase body and head retention (which can translate as sweetness) but it's pale. Caramalt is a very light crystal.

All good stuff, I was debating substituting it for caramalt in my pilsner but for the sake of £1.50 i may as well throw it in with my order :)
